1. Drinking Refined Sugar Drinks
The amount of refined sugar drinks we put into our bodies can definitely have a negative effect onto our skin. Basically refined sugar blocks the proper functioning of the skin. As Carl Thornfeldt, a dermatologist with over 30 years of skin research experience, says sugar has two major effect on skin—it activates inflammation and binds to the collagen to make the skin stiff" (Marie Claire Mag). Alternatively you are better off mixing water with fresh fruits for flavor if you cannot drink plain water to hydrate .
2. Applying Your Body Lotion/Cream on Face
I used to do this when I was younger then I started noticing the pores on my skin getting larger and it didn't take long for my skin to become more oily and dull looking. This is because the skin on our face is not the same as the skin on our bodies. The skin pores on our body are way smaller compared to face thus the formula for body lotions/creams are thicker and made to work better on the body not face. Make sure you use cream/lotion that is made specifically for face and your skin type.
3. Using Soap To Clean Your Face
Nobody can deny the after clean feeling of using a soap on our skin. However most soaps do not have the Ph balance that matches that of our skin which is an important factor when it comes to maintaining healthy good skin. Soaps tend to be harsh on skin in comparison to cleansers and other face wash. There are some soaps which contain Ph balance of 5.5 which can be good for skin protective barrier and won't cause much harm. But overall soaps are not a very good alternative when it comes to facial skin care.
4. Use of Abrasive Tools To Clean Your Face
Given current trends of using brushes, sponges and all kinds of face cloths to clean your face it can be quite tricky to know which ones are actually suitable for your specific kind of skin. Some brushes are actually causing more harm than good since they are made out of materials which are not necessarily gentle on skin. The last thing the skin on our face needs is any type of aggressive cleanness since it irritates the pores which can easily lead to blemishes, acne and all sorts of other problems. If you are going to use brushes best option would be made of fine soft silicone bristles since it also tends to be resistant to bacterial build up.
5. Drinking Too Much Alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates your skin which is damaging to your skin functionality. In order for skin to function properly you need to stay hydrated. Anything that drains water from your body which is what alcohol does it also hinders skin to perform at its best. This results into making your skin looking dull, dry and not fresh. This is why it is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water every day to stay hydrated for a lot of healthy reasons including skin care. And the days you decide to have alcohol you have to make sure you drink more than that depending on the amount of alcohol you have taken.
